I'm new and the client wont work help please

I just saw his server and really wanted to try it out but when I try I get the server check or firewall message. I downloaded the full version, I downloaded the non-hamachi client. I have tried turning off my firewall and I have deleted and redownloaded the client a total of 5 times and still get the same problem. I also tried restarting my computer and I saw another similar post that said he tried restarting his internet router but neither of those options helped me. I have also tried disabling the loopback adapter but that didn't help either.
